A folding sheet from the Atlas of Norfolk County, Massachusetts, published by Comstock & Cline in 1876, the year of the Centennial — three maps on one piece of paper. Opened flat, it is the whole Town of Wrentham: every road, pond, and farm from the Rhode Island line to Foxborough, with Sheldonville, West Wrentham, and Shepardville post offices marked and a village plan of Plainville tucked in the corner. Folded, one side is the village plans of Wrentham Center and Sheldonville, surveyed to the building — the Common tinted green, the churches, the town hall and high school, the straw works, and every house on South, East, Dedham, and Taunton Streets marked with its owner's name: Cowell, Fisher, Cobb, Porter, Fales. Turn it over and the other side is Bellingham, the town next door.
A hundred and fifty years on, most of these streets still run exactly where the surveyors drew them. Original hand-colored lithograph, not a reproduction.
